Green smoothie demo along with other fun stuff from June 10, 2010 Intro to healthy living and raw foods class at Happy Healthy Human.
Four short years ago I weighed 225 pounds and can remember distinctively sitting on my bed one morning and flipping my shoe by the tongue while sort of kicking my fat leg up to hopefully meet in the middle where i could hand off my shoe to my fat foot for the day. My big swelled belly of toxic waste was impeading all the ways my body wanted to go, I was my own obstacle. It was bad and I needed to make a change. I decided to make the change I desired and shedded 80 pounds over the next year on a vegan diet with no exercise. I was pretty skinny with ~5% bodyfat, my bag was empty and my skeleton needed a little meat. I really disliked the gym experience as a whole and knew there was more for me. I found my more through the practice of yoga. I’ve been doing yoga around two years now and it has given me the glue that holds everything together in every way of my existence.
It all started with a trip to Bikram yoga where my head was literally blown off. It was the hardest thing I had ever done at that point in my life. Its amazing to me as I sit here recalling that first class how far I’ve come, but its been a beautiful unfolding of a flower of sorts, and there is so much more to do, my practice is in its infancy from my perspective. I entered the yoga competition to see what doing a yoga routine on a stage in front of a bunch of people, a bunch of judges – including Emmy Cleaves – a legend, would be like. Let me tell you, it was great. I was inspired to aspire higher by just being there. I saw people in the crowd who were inspired and in awe by the collective effort and show put on in that room. That makes it all worth it plus some. The shared energy of the group of “competitors” was amazing as well. It was inspiring to share space with a group of such motivated people of strong body and mind. An experience to be remembered for sure. A funny thing I noticed upon completion of the event was that my personal bar of limitations has been lifted and I’m a much stronger human.
My yoga routine scored me third placed in the Florida regional Yoga Cup… pretty impressive the power of love.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
let it shine, let it shine, let it shine….

The only possible way to eat locally, for my area and many I visit at least, would be to eat a majority of chemically produced locally-grown frankenfood. Farmers that have bought into the more chemicals theory are destroying their land and the quality of food we eat while being entirely dependent on huge chemical companies and biotech seed companies in a scientific battle against mother nature. Who in their right mind would support this? The answer is continue reading…
